Fancy a snack? Take your mind off eating

If you fancy a snack, you could try to take your mind off it by distracting yourself.

Emotional eating is different to actual hunger. Often if we distract ourselves, the hunger goes away as we were not hungry in the first place.

If you are still hungry after trying these tips, have a small healthy snack.

  2. Clean the house
  3. Read a book
  4. Exercise
  5. Do some stretches
  6. Brush your teeth

We all need fats in our diet. Many people cut out fats from their diet, but this is not good. There are good and bad fats.

Good Fats:
Monounsaturated
Polyunsaturated
Omega fatty acids

Good fats are found in nuts, fish, olive oil

Bad Fats:
Saturated
Trans

Bad fats are found in meats, butter, fried foods

It is important to to cut out all fats as this can lead to health problems such as depression, cancer, poor vitamin aborpsion, high cholestoral, heart disease, overeating, lack of energy, brittle hair and nails.

Make sure you get around 20% to 40% of your calories each day from fats.

Feel in need of a detox? You could try this 24 hour detox. This should only be done for 24 hours.

Recipe for the lemon juice:
2 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice (approximately 1⁄2 to 1 lemon)
300 ml (10 fl oz) water
1 tsp maple syrup (optional) or a cinnamon stick
Pinch of cayenne pepper

Mix together the lemon juice, water, maple syrup and cayenne pepper. Stir well and serve slightly warm at room temperature.

Drink one glass with your breakfast, lunch, dinner and at bedtime.

Eat only vegetables and fruit for meals and snacks, but you can eat as many as you like up to your daily calorie allowance.

Make sure you drink 6 to 8 glasses of water during the day.

  1. Drink more water. Water makes you feel fuller. Aim for 8 glasses a day.
  2. Eat more fibre. Fibre absorbs water in your digestive track, which enlarges the quantity of food moving through your pipes, while slowing it down. The result is that you feel fuller for a longer amount of time. You should aim for around 25g of fibre a day.
  3. Eat lots of protein. Protein is one of the most filling foods. You should aim for 20% of the calories that you eat each day should come from protein.
  4. Soup is very filling and can make a satisfying meal

Cayenne pepper belongs to the capsicum family and  is mostly used in cooking. Use of cayenne has also been associated with a reduction in appetite. It helps to increase the rate of metabolism to 25% and increases blood circulation.

You can buy cayenne in powder or capsule form. You take the capsules with a glass of water, and the powder can be used in cooking, or you can put a few teaspoons in a glass of water daily.
